Frequently asked questions

Yes, English is spoken, and no, there is no separate tourist price: one fixed price list applies to everyone. Answers to everything else about booking, each service, aftercare and hygiene are grouped by topic below.

General

What is Shella Nails & Lashes?

Shella Nails & Lashes is a nail, lash and brow salon in Da Nang, set up for foreign women: tourists passing through and expats living in the city. We do gel nails, nail extensions, lash extensions, lash lifts, brow shaping, brow lamination and waxing. English is spoken, the price is the same for everyone, and it is agreed with you before any work starts.

Who will do my lashes and brows?

Han, the owner, does every lash and brow treatment at Shella Nails & Lashes herself. She is a licensed lash and brow professional and runs her own training academy, Shella Beauty Academy, where she teaches brow lamination, lash lifts and lash extensions to technicians who go on to work in other Da Nang salons. Booking here means going straight to the trainer. If you have a question about a lash or brow treatment, you can message us before you book.

Why should I choose Shella over other salons in Da Nang?

Because the usual risks of trying a new salon are dealt with up front. The price is agreed before any work starts, and it is the same for locals and foreigners. Single-use items are opened fresh in front of you. If something is not right within 3 days and you followed the aftercare advice, we fix it free. Every lash and brow treatment is done by the owner, Han, a licensed professional who trains the brow and lash technicians working in other Da Nang salons, so here you go straight to the trainer.

Do you speak English?

Yes. English is spoken at the salon, so you can explain what you want, ask questions and understand the aftercare advice without a translator. Bringing a photo of the look you want is still the fastest way to get exactly what you have in mind, whatever language you speak. Vietnamese is spoken too.

My English isn't strong. Can I still book?

Yes. The easiest way is to show us a photo of the nails, lashes or brows you want, and we confirm the service and the price with you before starting. You can also message us in writing, which gives you time to use a translation app. We speak English and Vietnamese.

Where can I see your work before I book?

Our Instagram account, @shella.nails.lashes, shows recent nail, lash and brow work from the salon. Scrolling through it is the quickest way to check whether our style matches what you want. You can also message us a photo of a look you like and ask whether we can do it before you book.

What products do you use?

We use leading products from well-known brands, chosen with the health of your natural nails in mind. Quality products hold better and are easier to remove cleanly, which protects the nail underneath. If you would like to know exactly what will be used on you, ask at your appointment and we will show you.

Do you serve men?

Yes. Men can book a men's manicure or any of our waxing services. Prices are on the price list and are the same for every client. You can book online or walk in when a technician is free. Lash and brow treatments are offered to women only.

Cost

Do tourists pay more than locals?

No. There is one fixed price menu, and locals and foreigners pay exactly the same. The prices on this website are the prices you pay at the salon. There is no separate tourist menu and no markup for foreign clients.

Will I know the final price before you start?

Yes. The price is agreed with you before any work begins, so there are no surprises when you pay. If you ask for something extra during the appointment, such as added nail art, we tell you the new price and wait for your agreement before doing it.

Why do some services say "from"?

Custom Nail Art, Custom Lash Sets and Lash Fills are priced "from" because the cost depends on the design you choose or, for a fill, on how many lashes need replacing. A single accent nail costs less than a full set of hand-painted art, and a dramatic custom lash set takes more time and material than a light one. You get a confirmed price before we start.

Where can I see your prices?

The full price list is on this website, with every nail, lash, brow and waxing service listed as plain text. It is the same list used at the salon, for every client. If you want something that is not on the list, message us a photo and we will give you a price before you book.

Is removal included in the price?

Yes. Removing old gel, nail extensions or lash extensions is included in the price of your service, so it does not add to your bill. Removal is always done by the technician, never by peeling or pulling, which protects your natural nails and lashes. We also remove work done at another salon.

Should I tip?

Tipping is not expected, but it is always appreciated. If you choose to leave a tip, 100% of it goes to the technician who did your treatment. The price you agreed before your appointment is the full price, with no service charge added on top.

Booking

Do I need to book, or can I walk in?

Both work. Booking online reserves your time, which matters most for lash extensions and brow lamination because they take the longest. Walk-ins are welcome whenever a technician is free. Use the Book button on this website to see open times and choose one that suits you.

How far in advance should I book?

Book lash extensions and brow lamination a few days ahead if you have a date in mind, since these take the longest. If you are travelling, book at least 3 days before you leave, so the free-fix window falls while you are still in Da Nang. Nails and quick brow shaping are easier to fit in at short notice.

Can I bring a photo of the nails, lashes or brows I want?

Yes, please do. A photo is the clearest way to show the shape, length, colour or style you have in mind. We look at it with you, tell you honestly whether it suits your natural nails, lashes or brows, and confirm the price before we start. Screenshots from Instagram or Pinterest are fine.

How long will my appointment take?

The booking page shows the time for each service when you choose it. Lash extension sets and brow lamination take the longest, and an eyebrow shape and trim is the quickest treatment on the menu. If you have a flight or another appointment afterwards, tell us when you book so we can plan around it.

What happens if I'm running late?

We hold your spot for 30 minutes after your booked time, even if you have not told us you are running late. If you know you will be late, message us as early as you can, so we can plan around it or offer you a new time.

Can I cancel or change my booking?

Yes. There is no deposit to pay and no fee for cancelling or missing an appointment. We only ask that you message us as early as you can if your plans change, because it lets us offer your time to someone else. Moving to a new time works the same way: just send us a message.

Can I bring my child or my dog?

Yes to both. You are welcome to bring your child or your pet with you. The salon is a small studio, so it helps if you mention it when you book. For lash treatments, remember that you will be lying still with your eyes closed, so a child should be able to sit calmly nearby.

Can I book with friends, for a birthday or a bridal party?

Yes. Groups of more than three people need to book in advance, so we can plan the time and have everyone ready. Birthdays, bridal parties and friends travelling together are all welcome. Message us with the date, the number of people and the services each person wants, and we will confirm the plan and the prices before the day.

Visiting

How do I find the salon?

The salon is next to the Panoma 1 and Panoma 2 apartment buildings in the Sun Cosmo complex, near Trần Thị Lý Bridge. Look for our tall, light-coloured sign on the wall. The Visit page has a Google Maps link and our WhatsApp contact, so you can open directions on your phone or message us if you need help on the way.

Where can I park?

You can park right next to the salon. Whether you arrive by motorbike, car or Grab, stopping beside the salon is the easiest option, and you can walk straight in. Look for our tall, light-coloured sign on the wall. If you have trouble finding us, message us on WhatsApp and we will guide you.

Is the salon wheelchair accessible?

No. The salon is not step-free, so it is not accessible for wheelchairs. If you have difficulty with steps, message us before booking so you know exactly what to expect when you arrive. We would rather tell you honestly now than have you find out at the door.

What happens at my first appointment?

First, we talk through what you want, and a photo helps. We confirm the service and agree the price before starting. Single-use items are opened fresh in front of you. After the treatment you get aftercare advice to take home, and you have 3 days to tell us if anything is not right. If you followed the aftercare, the fix is free.

When should I get lash extensions before a trip?

Get them at least 3 days before you fly if you can. That keeps the first 24 hours, when lashes must stay dry, away from travel, and it means the 3-day free-fix window falls while you are still in Da Nang. If you are staying for several weeks, plan a fill two to three weeks after your full set.

When should I get waxed before a beach day?

Book waxing one to two days before the beach, not on the same day. Freshly waxed skin should stay out of the sun, salt water and pools for about 24 hours. Waxing a day or two ahead also leaves time inside the 3-day free-fix window to come back if any hairs were missed.

Nails

How long does a gel manicure last?

A gel manicure usually lasts two to three weeks before your nails grow out or the edges start to wear. Gel on toes lasts longer, because toenails grow more slowly. Wearing gloves for cleaning, using cuticle oil and not using your nails as tools all help it last. If it chips or lifts within 3 days and you followed the aftercare, we fix it free.

Will gel or nail extensions damage my natural nails?

Gel and extensions should not damage your natural nails when they are applied and removed properly. Damage usually comes from peeling or picking the product off, which pulls away layers of your own nail with it. If your gel starts to lift, leave it alone and message us instead. Proper removal and daily cuticle oil keep your nails in good condition.

What nail shapes can I get with extensions?

Nail extensions can be shaped almond, square, coffin or stiletto, at the length you choose. Shorter almond and square shapes are the easiest to live with day to day, especially for typing and everyday tasks. Longer coffin and stiletto shapes make a stronger statement. Bring a photo if you have a specific look in mind.

What if my gel chips or lifts after a few days?

Message us within 3 days of your appointment, with a photo if you can, and come back to have it fixed free of charge, as long as you followed the aftercare advice. Chipping or lifting that early usually points to an application issue, which is exactly what the free-fix window is for. After 3 days, message us anyway and we tell you the options and the price first.

Can you remove gel or extensions done at another salon?

Yes. We remove gel and nail extensions done at another salon carefully, without peeling or forcing them off, so your natural nails stay in good condition. Removal is included in the price of your new service. Tell us when you book that you have work from another salon, so we can plan the extra time.

Lashes

I don't know which lash style suits me. Can you help me choose?

Yes. Before any lash service, Han talks through the look you want and looks at your eye shape and your natural lashes. Classic sets look the most natural, Thai style is soft and wispy, and natural volume is fuller but still soft. If you are unsure, a lighter set is the safer first choice, because it is easy to go fuller next time.

How should I prepare for a lash appointment?

Come with clean lashes and no eye makeup, especially no mascara, so the extensions or lift can bond to clean hair. Skip oily skincare around the eyes on the day. You lie back with your eyes closed for most of the appointment, so use the bathroom beforehand. If you wear contact lenses, bring your lens case and glasses.

How long do lash extensions last?

Most clients come back for a fill every two to three weeks. Extensions are attached to your natural lashes, and natural lashes shed and regrow all the time, so the set thins out gradually as they fall. Gentle daily brushing, keeping oil away from the eyes, and not rubbing or pulling at them all help a set last towards the longer end of that range.

Will lash extensions damage my natural lashes?

Extensions that are the right weight for your natural lashes, and removed properly, should not damage them. The usual causes of damage are pulling or picking extensions off, rubbing the eyes hard, and sets that are too heavy for thin natural lashes. That is why your natural lashes are checked before a style is chosen, and why removal should be done by a technician, never at home.

Will lash extensions look too dramatic?

They don't have to. Classic extensions add length and definition while still looking like your own lashes, and Thai style and natural volume sets are soft rather than heavy. You choose the length and curl with your technician before anything is applied. If you do want a bold, dramatic look, that is available too, as a custom lash set.

What is a lash fill, and when do I need one?

A fill tops up your existing extensions by replacing the ones that have fallen out along with your natural lashes. Most clients need one every two to three weeks. Before starting, Han looks at your lashes in a short consultation and tells you whether a fill is enough or a new full set would look better, and you agree the price before any work begins.

Can you fill extensions done at another salon?

Yes. We can fill lash extensions that were done at another salon. At a short consultation first, Han checks the condition of your existing set and tells you honestly whether a fill will hold well or whether removing it and starting fresh is the better option. You agree the plan and the price before anything is done.

How long does a lash lift last?

A lash lift usually lasts around six to eight weeks. The curl stays in the lashes it was applied to and fades as those lashes shed and new, straighter lashes grow in. Because a lift uses only your own lashes, there is nothing to fill or remove. You simply book again when the curl has grown out.

What should I do if my eyes feel irritated after a lash treatment?

Message us straight away and come back for a free aftercare consultation, so we can look at your lashes and advise you. Do not try to pull off extensions yourself, because that can damage your natural lashes. If it feels serious or does not settle, see a doctor or pharmacist without waiting for your appointment with us.

I have sensitive eyes or allergies. Can I still get lash extensions?

A patch test is not required, but tell us about any sensitivity or past reaction before your appointment so it can be taken into account. If you have reacted to lash products before, check with your doctor before booking any lash treatment. If anything feels uncomfortable afterwards, message us straight away and come back for a free aftercare consultation.

Can I swim or go to the beach with lash extensions?

Yes, after the first 24 hours. Keep your lashes dry for the first day so the adhesive can set fully. After that, swimming in the sea or a pool is fine. Rinse your lashes with clean water afterwards, let them air-dry, brush them gently, and keep oily sunscreen away from the lash line.

Brows

What is brow lamination?

Brow lamination brushes your brow hairs upwards and sets them in place, so the brows look fuller, more even and groomed for weeks. It works on your own hairs, with nothing added. It suits brows with gaps, hairs that grow in different directions, or brows that look flat. Lamination & Tint adds colour for extra definition and is our most popular brow treatment.

How long does brow lamination last?

Brow lamination usually lasts six to eight weeks. The set hairs slowly relax and are replaced as your brows grow, so the effect fades gradually rather than all at once. Keeping the brows dry for the first 24 hours and brushing them into place each morning helps the result hold. Brow tint fades sooner than the lamination itself.

Will my brows look natural after shaping?

Yes. The aim is brows that suit your face, not a fixed stencil. Han's method maps the brow shape to your face using proportions, deciding where the brow should start, where the arch should sit and where it should end, rather than working by eye alone. The planned shape is marked first, so you can see it before any hair is removed.

Will brow tint make my brows too dark?

No, the tint is matched to you. The shade is chosen to suit your hair and skin tone, usually about one shade darker than your natural brows, so they look fuller without looking drawn on. Tint looks slightly stronger for the first day or two, then softens. If you prefer a very soft look, say so before we start.

What is brow mapping?

Brow mapping is measuring the proportions of your face and marking where your brows should start, arch, and end. At Shella Nails & Lashes the proposed shape is drawn onto your brows with a removable pencil so you can see the result before any hair is removed by waxing, threading, or tweezing. The drawing wipes off. Hair does not grow back on command — that asymmetry is the reason the consultation exists.

Is the brow consultation really free?

Yes, with no obligation to book anything afterwards. The 15-minute brow mapping consultation costs nothing whether or not you go on to have your brows shaped. There is no deposit and no cancellation fee.

What if I don't like the shape you map?

It gets redrawn until you do, or you leave with nothing removed. The mapping is pencil on skin and wipes off completely. No hair is removed until you have seen the shape and said yes.

Do I have to book the shaping at the same time?

No. You can book the mapping alone, see the shape, and go away to think about it. If you do want the shaping done in the same visit, say so when you book so enough time is reserved.

Can I get brow mapping before a cosmetic brow tattoo?

Yes, and it is the sensible order. Seeing a drawn shape on your own face is the cheapest way to find out whether you actually want that shape permanently.

How long does brow mapping take?

About 15 minutes on its own, or 30 to 45 minutes if you go on to have the shaping done in the same visit.

What language is the consultation in?

English or Vietnamese. Our staff do not speak Russian, Korean or Chinese, so bring a photo of brows you like, or message us first and use a translation app.

Do I need to do anything before I come?

Come with brow makeup removed if you can. If you can't, we clean the area at the salon. Do not pluck or wax in the two weeks before, since the mapping needs the natural growth line to be visible.

Waxing

How should I prepare for waxing?

Let the hair grow to about the length of a grain of rice, so the wax can grip it. On the day, come with clean, dry skin and no lotion or oil on the areas being waxed. Skip exfoliating scrubs the day before. If your skin is sunburned, reschedule, because burned skin should not be waxed.

I've never been waxed. What should I expect?

Expect a quick sting as the wax is removed, which most people find manageable, and skin that looks a little pink for a few hours afterwards. Tell your technician it is your first time, and they will explain each step before doing it. For the rest of the day, avoid hot showers, sun, swimming and tight clothing on the waxed area.

How long does waxing last?

Waxing usually keeps skin smooth for three to five weeks, because it removes hair from the root rather than cutting it at the surface. Regrowth comes in gradually, not all at once. Book your next wax once the hair is long enough to grip again, and avoid shaving in between, since shaving resets the cycle.

Aftercare

What if I don't like the result?

Tell us before you leave, and we adjust it while you are still in the chair. If you notice a problem later, you have 3 days from your appointment to come back for a free fix on any service, as long as you followed the aftercare advice you were given. We would rather fix something than have you walk around unhappy with it.

How does the 3-day free fix work?

If something is not right within 3 days of your appointment, contact us any way you like, by message, phone or in person, and we fix it at no charge. A photo helps but is not required. It applies to every service, nails, lashes, brows and waxing, with one free fix per service. The one condition is that you followed the aftercare advice.

What if something goes wrong after the 3 days?

Message us anyway. We look at it, tell you honestly what it needs and what it will cost, and only go ahead once you agree. Some change after the first few days is normal wear, not a fault. Lash extensions shed gradually with your natural lashes, which is what fills are for, and gel slowly wears at the tips over two to three weeks.

Will I get aftercare instructions?

Yes. After every service you get aftercare advice for that treatment, including what to avoid in the first 24 hours and when to come back. Following it is what keeps your result looking good for longer, and it is also the one condition of the 3-day free fix. The same advice is published on this website so you can check it again at home.

Hygiene

Are your tools clean?

Yes. Single-use items, such as nail files and buffers, are opened fresh in front of you at the start of your appointment, so you can see they have not been used on anyone else. Metal tools, such as cuticle nippers, are reused and cleaned between every client. If you have any question about hygiene, ask and you will get a straight answer.

Do you reuse nail files and buffers?

No. Files and buffers are single-use: they are opened new for you and not used on another client. Porous items like these cannot be properly cleaned between clients, which is why they should always be new. You are welcome to watch them being opened at the start of your appointment.

Do you reuse metal tools like cuticle nippers?

Yes. Metal tools such as cuticle nippers and pushers are reused, and they are cleaned between every client. Items that cannot be properly cleaned, such as nail files and buffers, are single-use: they are opened fresh in front of you and never used on anyone else. If you have a question about how any tool is handled, ask.

Why do you open the tools in front of me?

So you do not have to take hygiene on trust. Visitors in a new country often cannot tell how a salon handles its tools, and asking can feel awkward. Opening single-use items like files and buffers in front of you shows, rather than tells, that they are new and have not been used on another client.

How can I tell if a beauty salon is hygienic?

Watch what happens before your treatment starts. Single-use items like files and buffers should be new and opened in front of you, and metal tools should come out clean rather than from a tray of used ones. The work surface and chair should look freshly cleaned, and the technician should clean their hands. A good salon answers hygiene questions calmly and directly.
